Brandon Zaslow
earned degrees in Hispanic Languages and Literatures, Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, and Organizational Development and Leadership. Brandon is a certified professional coach (PCC, International Coaching Federation), a hypnotherapist (C.Ht, American Hypnosis Association), and an organizational development consultant (ODC, Organizational Development Network). From 1995 to 2023, he was Director of a Site of the California World Language Project, developing programs for teachers of commonly and less commonly taught languages, heritage and native speakers, and English language learners for Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Ventura Counties. Brandon was the writer of California’s 2009 and 2019 World Language(s) Standards, and one of the writers of California’s 2003 and 2020 Foreign/World Language(s) Framework. He has been honored by his colleagues receiving California’s Outstanding Teacher Award in 1996, named National Textbook Company Teacher of the Year and accepting its Award for Leadership in Education in 2000, receiving Distinguished Service Awards from the California Language Teachers Association in 2009, from the California Subject Matter Project in 2023, and named recipient of the Hal Wingard Lifetime Achievement Award for World Language Educators in 2016. Brandon is an author of Entre mundos (Pearson), a program for Spanish speakers, and Invitaciones (Vista Higher Learning), a parallel program for non- natives. For over three decades, he presented at local, State, and national venues in the following areas: standards-based and framework-aligned language and culture education, competency- based assessment, diversity sensitive education, teacher-teaching-teacher models of professional development, personal and organizational coaching, guided, focused mindfulness practices, human and organizational development, and agency for leadership.

Tonja Byrom
is the Single Subject Online Credential Program Coordinator at California State University, East Bay. As an instructor within the Department of Teacher Education, she teaches courses in world language methods, graduate research, and supervises teacher candidates placed in language classrooms throughout the state. Tonja was a leader within the California World Language Project, part of the California Subject Matter Project (CSMP), serving Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Ventura Counties (2010-2023). Tonja trains teachers throughout California and the nation focusing on high-leverage teaching practices in world language classrooms. She was a Past President of California Language Teachers' Association and served as a writer of California’s 2020 World Languages Framework preparing half of the content addressing the education of English Language Learners. Prior to her work at California State University, East Bay, Tonja coordinated the Single Subject Credential Program for World Languages at California State University, Fullerton, where she developed California’s first independent credential program for the certification of teachers of English Language Learners. She has been an assistant principal and has experience as a teacher of English Language Development, high school Spanish, and elementary dual immersion Spanish. In 2022, Tonja was named California’s Outstanding Teacher Leader by her peers in the California Language Teachers' Association.

Svetlana Lazarova
a National Board-Certified teacher of English since 2000, was named in 2010 by the Carlston Family Foundation one the nation’s five finest teachers. That same year, Svetlana was recognized by her colleagues of the California Language Teachers Association, where she served as President, as one of California’s five outstanding teachers. Svetlana has taught English, courses for English Language Development and Latin at the secondary level both in the United States and abroad and worked throughout California to support teachers of English language learners, most recently serving on California’s 2019 World Languages Standards Advisory Committee and as a writer of California’s 2020 World Languages Framework, preparing half of the content addressing the education of English Language Learners. Svetlana taught world language methods courses within the California State University system both at Fullerton and Long Beach and directs her efforts towards working teachers through programs she delivers on high-leverage teaching practices in world language classrooms. For over ten years, she worked with seasoned teachers in programs in Advanced Studies and Leadership Development within the California World Language Project serving teachers from Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Ventura Counties. She is a newly appointed member of the National Committee for Latin and Greek. and is currently preparing her second book of poetry.

Aurora Martinez
a professional development specialist for over twenty years, designed and delivered standards-based and framework-aligned programs for teachers of Advanced Placement Spanish Language, Literature and Culture and related strands in Spanish and Spanish American culture and film to enhance the capacity of over a thousand California educators, the majority underprepared to serve Spanish speaking students, particularly in advanced placement courses. Her team’s focus continues to be on social and ecological justice, particularly in low- performing schools that serve multilingual children of low-income families and communities. Aurora and her team have dramatically impacted the performance of teachers in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Diego, San Bernardino, and Ventura counties where the five instructional units she shares during each program cycle, more than 100 in her twenty-year tenure, are seen in classrooms throughout the region and the State. Most recently, Aurora became a college counselor increasing her skills in serving families and communities and becoming more deeply involved in with first generation college bound secondary students working closely with their families within their communities.
